Site upgrades

The new version of Drupal has landed, and I’ve taken the opportunity to upgrade the site. The new default theme is quite nice, and I expect to keep it for a while, until I can commission a custom site design. It’s nice to be rid of the old Drupal logo as well.

I went ahead and added a Contact form while I was at it. If you need to get in touch with us via email, you can do so by clicking “Contact” in the upper right menu.

Joomla migration cancelled

The migration to Joomla has been cancelled. After evaluating the software more thoroughly, I have chosen to stick with Drupal as the content management software. Because I have been unable to upgrade the existing site to the new version of Drupal, I have installed the new version from scratch and will be restoring old content over the course of the next several weeks.

There will be several changes, as well:

  1. Comments will no longer require registration. It’s hard enough to attract people who know me personally to register and post comments, much less strangers. I will be looking at various other spam-protection methods.
  2. Forums will no longer be integrated. Drupal’s forum does not currently suit my needs, so there will be a new forum based on PunBB. Since there was zero activity on the old forum, setting up the new forum will be low on the priority list.
  3. Registered users will not be migrated. Since comments will not require registration, and forums won’t be integrated, the site will not require any sort of registration in order to access any content. This may change in the future.
  4. My blog will no longer be on the front page. I had been meaning to do this for a while anyway; my personal ramblings are decidedly not the focus of this site.

The focus of this site has changed considerably since I first set it up; please be patient as I work on moving things around.
